Malware Demystified

Malware is SCARY
People make it seem that way at least. I work as a malware reverse engineer so I am definitely guilty of being desensitized to the dangers that running malware on a system can cause…however…I think it’s worth bringing up the discussion around how malware is created. Malware authors don’t employ some dark underground concoction of sanctioned C libraries to realize their creations, they just use regular things that anyone else can use, but they program them to do bad things. I agree the dangers of running malware on a computer are very real and they can cause serious damage to victims, I just feel it is important to understand just how easily this can be done since, more often than not, the person who wrote the malware that infected you isn’t some state sponsored threat actor, but rather a teen with too much time on their hands.
